Our dearly loved husband, Dad, Bopa and Great-Bopa, uncle and friend Russell Wayne Agar passed away peacefully at the Nanaimo Regional General Hospital Palliative Care Unit on 26 June 2015. He leaves to mourn countless friends and family across Canada and around the world. Wayne is survived by his wife of nearly 54 years Jean, née Forrest; his children David (and Madonna), Daniel, and Janie (and Mike Drummond); grandchildren Danielle (and Jeremy Wilson), James Dawson, Kyle (and Hilary), Corey, and Sianna Drummond; and his precious great-grandson James Malcolm Wilson. Wayne is lovingly remembered as brother of Lynn, Brian, Leslie King, Cynthia Grayley, Lorraine, Pat (and Diane) King, Bonnie and the late Robert, Dorothy and Sylvia; and brother-in-law of James (and Elaine) Forrest.

Wayne was born and raised near St. Marys, Ontario, second son of his mother Dorothy Oliver and his father Robert Agar who died at sea in 1944 when Wayne was only five years old. Wayne and Jean lived in Ontario and Alberta and British Columbia and Pakistan before retiring to Nanaimo where Wayne could fully indulge his passions for gardening and beachcombing, renovating and fixing, visiting and chatting, polishing arbutus walking sticks and savouring peppermints, and generally helping other people in any way possible. Mr. A is fondly remembered by the many whose lives he touched at The Salvation Army Glenmore Temple and at various seniors homes and in hospitals across Calgary and Nanaimo.

He has left behind a gaping hole in the daily lives of Jean, Janie, Mike and Sianna, and of Mikey, Darby, Silver, Pagan, Corky, Gumball, Clover and Ginger. We are consoled in remembering how he shared his good humour and his corny jokes, his ready laugh and warm hugs, his wise words and Biblical counsel. His faith was strengthened through his Daily Bread devotional books and his music, particularly gospel and the Gaithers. He and Jean loved to travel at every opportunity. They took road trips and cruises, train rides and plane rides, to the United States, to France, to Greece and Italy, especially their beloved Florence, to Jamaica on a mission trip, to Hawaii and Disney with their grandkids, and to Pakistan where they would later return to serve four years in the missionary community of Murree Christian School. They adopted new friends all along the way.

Wayne loved spending time with family and he worked hard to strengthen ties. He loved camping, barbecuing, fishing and golfing. He loved to leave every place he visited better than he found it. We are so thankful to everyone who assisted Wayne in these last few weeks. His days were filled with special highlights -- like watching Sianna's dance and piano recitals, cuddling "wee Jimmy" for the first time, visiting with Judi and Ray, Pat and Diane, and Lana -- and he loved every moment. Far and above all of that, Wayne loved his Lord. Wayne's greatest wish, his driving force, was to see his loved ones come to share in his assurance of salvation through Jesus Christ, anticipating eternity spent together in the presence of God.

We love you, dearest Bopa.

Go with God.

We will follow.

Wayne's earthly remains are resting at Sands Funeral Chapel,1 Newcastle Avenue, Nanaimo, but his spirit soars with God. Visitation will be held at Sands on Tuesday, 30 June, from 6:00 to 8:00 pm. A service in celebration of Wayne's life will take place at 1:00 pm, Thursday, 2 July, at the Nanaimo Church of the Nazarene, 2150 Departure Bay Road. Memorial donations can be made to the Terry Fox Foundation at terryfox.org.
