Our beloved Mom slipped away on January 18. Mary was born in Calgary, AB to Ivy and Arthur Poulton (deceased). Her family moved to Victoria in the late 1930s where she later married Jack (John) R. Townsend (deceased). Survived by her children Larry (Elaine) Townsend, Denise (Vern) Banfield, Marlene (Wayne) Herrmann and Neil Townsend; grandchildren Gary, David, Anita, Sherry, Jason and Raymond; four great-grandchildren; numerous nieces and nephews; sister-in-law Nancy Mundy; sister-in-law Betty and her husband Cal Wambolt. Family members described Mom as feisty and spirited as did the wonderful staff at the Chemainus Health Care Centre where she lived the past six years. We’ve been told the staff will miss mom terribly as will we all. We are grateful and happy that mom was able to touch so many people’s lives. She was a master at crossword puzzles and loved cats and animals in general. Her quick wit and sparkle has been extinguished from this plane of existence but we are sure it continues to shine brightly in the sky. Mom helped heal people through her prayer work, her daughter Marlene among the many who were thankful for that gift.

Mary was predeceased by her siblings Art (Marge) Poulton, Kay Smith, Joan (Howie) Grant, Lynn (Bill) Lloyd, Allan Poulton and Earl (Min) Poulton along with nieces and nephews who left this world far too early. A very special thank you to Pearl and Maura her care companions who were there for Mom when family couldn’t be. We know you will miss her as much as we will.

A celebration of life will be held sometime in March. Flowers are gratefully declined.
